How do I manage assets inside Forge?

Short answer: Open the Assets tab in the Forge dock. It's a full asset manager that lives inside the editor: browse, search, upload, rename, move, and organize your images, audio, and video without leaving the Stage. The same library appears whenever a media event asks you to pick an asset, so anything you upload is immediately usable.

Browsing and organizing

The Assets tab shows your media as tiles you can search and arrange into folders. From the panel you can:

  • Upload new files.
  • Rename an asset or a folder.
  • Move assets between folders and create new folders.
  • Delete what you no longer need.
  • Inspect an asset's details from its info panel.

Hover an audio tile to preview it - you can check that a track is the right one without inserting it anywhere.

The tree is organized with each of your projects as a top-level folder, plus a shared library whose assets can be used in any project; in Forge you start inside the current project's folder. Assets that belong to another project appear dimmed - using one here copies it into this project after a confirmation, so projects never quietly depend on each other's files. Two filters, Used and Unused, narrow the view to the assets your scenes actually reference - or the ones they don't, which makes cleanup easy.

Picking assets from events

When a media event needs an asset - a background swap, a music track, a sound effect, a video - a picker opens showing the same library as the Assets tab. The two stay in sync: upload something in one and it appears in the other. The picker is a small window you can drag anywhere by its header and pin open while you work, with the same three viewing densities and right-click actions as the Assets tab.

Uploading from the picker is the fast path: when an event asked for an asset and you upload a file right there, the new asset is inserted into the event directly. No second trip to find the thing you just added.

Solid color backgrounds

You don't need an asset for a flat color background. A Background event can be a color instead of an image: switch it from Image to Solid color in its editor and pick the color there. The color is part of the event itself - not a file in your library - so there's nothing to name, organize, or clean up later. Handy for placeholders while art is in progress, title cards, and fade-to-black or fade-to-white moments.

Uploads are safety-screened

Every image you upload is safety-screened before it's stored. This happens automatically as part of the upload - there's nothing to configure - and it applies everywhere an image enters your library, including uploads made from the picker.
