Short answer: Yes. You can pop the Stage, the Script editor, the Story Map, or a separate Preview into its own browser window and drag it to another monitor. The main Forge tab stays in charge, and pop-outs stay live and in sync - selections, the playhead, and edits flow between windows immediately. Closing a pop-out, or clicking its placeholder in the main tab, brings that surface home.
What can pop out
Four surfaces open in their own window:
- Stage - the live editable stage, so you can write and stage scenes on a big screen.
- Script - the full script editor.
- Story Map - the whole project as a flowchart of scenes.
- Preview - an independent preview window with its own playback.
Moved vs extra
The Stage, Script, and Story Map windows move to the new window: the main tab shows a placeholder in their place with a one-click way to bring them back, so there's only ever one live copy of each surface. Preview is different - it's an independent extra window running its own playback, so you can watch your game play on one monitor while you keep editing on another, and it doesn't replace anything in the main tab.
Everything stays in sync
The main tab is the single source of truth - all saves go through it. Whatever you do in a pop-out (write a line, move the playhead, change a selection) applies immediately and shows up everywhere. Editing on a popped-out Stage works too, including writing lines directly on the stage and positioning sprites. One exception: dragging a sprite to reposition it for a specific timeline event stays in the main tab.
Reconnecting
Pop-outs are resilient. If the main tab reloads, they reconnect on their own and pick up where they were. If the main tab closes, a pop-out shows a disconnected notice and reconnects as soon as the main tab is back. Opening the same surface twice hands the surface to the newest window.
