Short answer: Drag a row to reorder it - indentation adjusts itself so the structure around it stays valid. Right-click any event for the action menu: Edit, Add camera move, Select, Copy, Paste below, Add to group, and Delete. Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on Mac) selects several events one at a time - or Shift-click to select the whole run between two events - to copy, group, or delete together. To move events to a different scene, drag them onto that scene's card in the strip at the bottom.
Drag to reorder
Grab a row and drag it up or down. Forge adjusts indentation as it lands, so a line dropped inside a choice option or a condition branch joins it cleanly, and a line dropped outside leaves it cleanly. Blocks travel whole - dragging a choice or a when header carries everything inside it. A drop that would break the scene's structure is simply cancelled; the timeline never lets a drag corrupt your scene.
The right-click menu
Right-click any event:
- Edit - open the event's editor (and park the stage on it).
- Add camera move - on background events only; see What is the establishing shot shortcut?.
- Select - start a multi-selection from this event.
- Copy - copy the event (copying a choice or condition header copies its whole block).
- Paste below - paste the copied events under this one.
- Add to group - put the event into one of your groups.
- Delete - remove it, with a confirm step.
With several events selected, the menu switches to bulk actions: Copy N (only when the selection is contiguous), Group N, Delete N, and Clear selection.
Selecting several events
Ctrl-click (Cmd-click) events to toggle them in and out of a selection - it works across the timeline and the Story Map, which share the same selection. Shift-click selects a range: every event between the one you last clicked and the one you Shift-click joins the selection, including rows hidden inside collapsed blocks, and adding Ctrl (Cmd) to the Shift-click extends the current selection instead of replacing it. A slim bar shows how many are selected, and the right-click menu carries the bulk actions. Right-click > Select also starts a selection from a single event.
Copy and paste, safely
Paste re-creates the copied events cleanly at the destination: they arrive as fresh events, re-indented to fit where they land. A paste that cannot work - a branch fragment with no condition to belong to, a non-option pasted into a choice's option list - is refused with a message instead of breaking the scene.
Two things to know: the timeline clipboard is Forge's own (separate from your computer's clipboard) and does not survive a page refresh; and there is no Cut - copy first, then delete the original.
Groups
Select events and choose Group N to wrap them in a named group. The group header can be renamed, recolored, ungrouped, or deleted, and collapses to keep long scenes tidy. Groups are purely organizational - readers never see them, and they have no effect on playback. When you group a selection that touches a choice or condition block, Forge expands the group to keep the whole block together.
Moving events to another scene
Drag events onto a scene card in the strip along the bottom of Forge and they move to that scene. Hover a card for a moment and the scene opens, so you can drop them exactly where they belong. Blocks keep their contents on the trip, and the move saves automatically like everything else.
